To put it simply:

Fedora 7 distro (yum-updated to kernel 2.6.22.9) + egoboo-2.4.3 + egoboo-data-2.4.3 (only recently & automatically yum-installed w/ all dependencies) = Segmentation Violation while starting a Single Player game (when you click Select Module on the character choosing screen, regardless of the Module or New/Loaded character). All previous screens look OK.

I turned down all the FX to a minimum, but to no avail. Tried to switch between Fullscreen/Windowed mode, and also between Metacity/Compiz managers - and nothing changed.

Other OpenGL games (as ppracer, supertux or neverball) work perfectly well.

My Fedora 7 runs on the Toshiba A200-1M4 Satellite notebook.

Anyone knows what to do? (except for forgetting about egoboo, which is quite impossible)

Has Egoboo worked for you in the past? If it has, try re-installing Egoboo (go to Program Files, delete "Egoboo Development Team", then use the installer). If THAT doesn't work for you, I have no idea what's going on...

He's on Linux; not Windows.

In general, I don't know that anyone here has worked with those Fedora packages at all. I didn't even know they existed.

When Egoboo loads a level and gets ready to play, it starts by copying some files/directories to a temporary location (called the import folder). If it can't do that for some reason, there's a good chance it's going to segfault, so that could be what's happening there. I haven't seen the code for this Linux port, so I couldn't say where it's trying to create/write that folder. You might try running the game as root (I know, baaaaaad). If it runs then, it sounds like the packager did a bad job porting/packaging the game.

I'm afraid running game as root didn't help much.

What I'll try next is to run a Windows version of egoboo with Wine, and see what happens...

Thank you for your support, anyway.
