I never found the room that's supposed to show you the puzzle, either. 
I just knew how to do it from reading here.

You turn them around until a key drops from the ceiling.
I think it's 01011, with 1 being the switches that need to be turned.
@woodmouse: Yes, you should open the door. If I remember correctly, there are two more keys hidden behind it.

I know, but I use Angel.  So, I fly to the other side from the nightmare terribly hard to see black tile room maze.

Heh yeah. The puzzle is randomized each time you start the module.
And the puzzle answer is behind the switch door.
Did you get to the end of the module?

That's not the same as "Underground" from Wesnoth, is it?
