I think that there should be the occasional "non-hurting" weapons. Weapons that don't cause damage, but MAY push or bump players and NPCs. These weapons may even be foam! But there should be a small note about it being non-lethal, like it saying in the message, "%n_picked_up_a_Foam_Sword._It_is_non-lethal.". These weapons would be in toy shops, and some toys are only usable by G'nomes (specifically Nerf Gonnes, which would spawn objects that are darts that can be picked up and used when the Nerf Gonne is in the other hand to reload the Nerf Gonne. The ammo would be unlimited as long as you could go get it!

Another thing that might be fun is for there to be a spell that temporarily converts your weapons into nerf weapons, nerf wands, etc.

You would get a message "XXXX nerfed you!"

It would play off the online gaming idea of getting nerfed, but in a very fun Egoboo way!

While a weapon is nerfed it's treated as kursed and undroppable?

Why not just have monsters who are immune to damage instead? Razz

And you have to use wit and special tools to bypass them (pits, paralysing spells, traps, etc.)

They could be a debuff spell. That is practical.

Also, the weapons would not be un-useful. They would have a significant knockback so that you could use them to push enemies around. Even into pits.
