EDIT: It didn't work in 2.63b ("Alex cannot use this item..."), and crashed 2.77b when I took out my Book of Missile. It crashes like that all the time.

No as I said before, 2.6.3b does not use the new stable development. Only versions later than 2.7.7 have all those nice new features.

Yes, but the problem with not having the nice new features is that the characters are still set up with the tags, and objects are set up to read them!

Paladins can't use relics, and Rogues consistently poison themselves with stilettos!

...And nobody can read scrolls.

It's definitely a problem.
But oh well.

@Zefz: I added the ability to read/write, the ability to use magic, and (I think) the Advanced Weapons ability, which, along with the reading ability, is totally dead and unused (I think only version 1 uses them)...

Reading and weapons usage are two skills I myself implemented into the game. They haven't been there before.

They will play a significant role and become really important later.

Speaking of reading: Should illiterate characters be able to read gravestones? What about Signs?

Duh. If you're illiterate you should be really illiterate... Confused
So I'd say, no reading gravestones and signs either then. Illiterates usually can't read (or write) anything but a single "x".

I think not, but maybe then it will test their intelligence to see if they can figure out part of the writings on signs.
Like: "This sign has a hammer and an anvil on it, this must be a blacksmith."

But would there really be that many illiterate characters?
The only one I can think of is Zombor.
A language system was discussed once, and I think we should implement it. G'nomes can read G'nomish, but not human text, for example.
