This was not a bug. I just checked it out. Enable Smooth Particle effects and the flames look normally. I am releasing a new version of 2.7.7 with some really minor improvements and with an installer that makes the game run properly from installation (No need to download the package).

Click on image to enlarge. No buggy flames as you can see.
I also enabled Vsync and Force GFX acceleration, but that should not matter. I will use the current setup settings in the new installer I am making.

There are flames in there. Just in that particular screenshot the smoke covers the fire.

It seems to be counting the frames wrong; that looks like the lightning/electricity particle to me.
I don't know, because I don't have the newest version yet.

If you read my announcement post, I released Egoboo 2.7.7 with a new installer (Including slightly different Setup settings).
As far as I can see, I changed particle effects to SMOOTH, enabled VSYNC and GFX_ACCELERATION. Do this manually in setup.txt (This is the most secure thing to do, to make sure the settings are as you want them).
