I think the SPAM-thread is pretty much the only exception here, yes. If you really absolutely need to spam somewhere, do it there, even if the last spam in there is old. Whoever doesn't want to read spam then, may simply avoid the SPAM-thread. However, of course you shouldn't just spam all the time, but also post some useful stuff in the meantime.
