Can people try if this works for you? It may even work on some pc's it did not work on before.
Yes, a minor update to EgoMap, but probably the last one too, unless someone manages to get the source build properly (Better solution may be to make a whole new map editor instead).
I found out that EgoMap was only available through the DEV package (which is huge!). Here is a proper release in it's own installer with even some updates. I discovered some bugs with random map generation and the use of the new tilesets.
EgoMap Alpha 14
- Added three new tilesets, Arcane, Maze and Town
- Fixed some incorrect color codes and removed a lot of junk
- Updated the SDL to the latest version
- Added a setup settings file

Note: EgoMap does still not work in Linux without wine. _________________ http://egoboo.sourceforge.net

| hmmmm... I thought EgoMap was only using Crystalspace and not SDL. |

In my EgoMap folder there is an SDL.dll file there.
So it seems so. _________________ Donna Noble has left the library. Donna Noble has been saved.

Everything works fine, but the visual quality is poorer and everything looks pixelated, even the buttons.
I took a screenshot of each to show:

I noticed that too. (with the buttons)
Edit:
Linux users need to open a terminal,
cd to wherever they installed it. (C:\ is usually .wine/drive_c)
and type wine egomap_a14.
That should work. _________________ Donna Noble has left the library. Donna Noble has been saved.

Nice. I am testing it and it seems to auto-save.
I made it crash and my test module was in the "Modules" folder.
Edit: I tried to open it with EgoMap and it was there, but as soon as I select it and click "Done" it crashes. _________________ Penguinflyer2222: Made in U.S.A.

It doesn't matter me, that it's pixelated. I mean, why would it matter? The "maze" tileset is cool! _________________

There's a possible bug in settings.exe:
For the resolution, there is one that says:
3) 1024x786
That is not correct.
It should be:
3) 1024x768 _________________ Donna Noble has left the library. Donna Noble has been saved.

Testing more tilesets... (I tested arcane)
Edit: I tested town, and the whole thing was covered in little things like hills. (hill-like texture) _________________ Penguinflyer2222: Made in U.S.A.

When I try to run settings.exe I get this:
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)." _________________ "To err is human, to really mess up requires a computer."

settings.exe resolution bug is a easy fix.
The pixelated stuff is fixed. I wanted to add the option in settings.exe to draw EgoMap pixelated or not (Increases pc performance), but it was too much code for me to bother
@chainsaw: Hmm strange. woodmouse, you getting this trouble too? I think settings.exe uses the .net framework 3.0 and maybe even redistributable package 2008 (which is always included in the Egoboo installer). _________________ http://egoboo.sourceforge.net

The installer has a bit of a strange requirement to type in a path. I think you should just assume that someone will want to install it to \Program Files\EgoMap_a14. Requiring someone to type something in limits the number of people that will be able to install it properly. The config tool will allow you to run EgoMap from any directory and edit the files in any Egoboo installation.
Good work on the icons. Where did they come from?
If you rename the SDL.dll to _SDL.dll the program still runs. It does not use SDL.
The dependence on Crystalspace is responsible for both the difficulty in getting it to compile (since the code is only compatible with a narrow range of Crystalspace versions from several years ago) and for the requirement of a windows interpreter. |

settings.exe (in Linux) uses Mono. I tried wine first and it said to install Mono for windows. _________________ Donna Noble has left the library. Donna Noble has been saved.

Ah okay, I will fix the installer path. I also thought about adding EgoMap as standard with every "official" release of Egoboo. This means the game always comes with it's map editor (which is of course optional install in the Egoboo installer).
This is of course only for Windows users. Linux won't have the editor. (unless they download and install it separately with wine).
SDL: That is strange. EgoMap always came with SDL packed. Maybe Arakon had something planned? I guess I can remove it as junk then.
Reading through the old forums, I saw bgbirdsey has been with us a much longer time than I remembered (In the days of Zippy even, read him discussing with Arakon about the editor). Egoboo needs better tools though... Golem is in progress as a model editor for Egoboo which supports bones and actions/tags specially for Egoboo. EgoMap is buggy, but works (almost always). _________________ http://egoboo.sourceforge.net
