I have been gone for a while and I hope you guys remember me and my few posts (sniff) you didn't even say happy birthday on june 13.
SO... it appears as though egoboo is... lacking developers, I would love to do things other than simply create sprites, so. what kind of coding do you people use for egoboo, and would you care if i helped? I would love to be part of the major developing portion of egoboo ( just not next week im on vacation) _________________ soon to come! |

Your birthday was on the 13th?
Anyway, I could use some ideas on weapons for my Inventor. Unique ones. Can you think of anything that uses technology and may use electricity or pressurized air/water? _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/maxaxle88/

heres some IDEAS
since i dont know quite how inventive youre inventor should be i will catagorize
If smart guy in middle ages
shotgonne (i could try and make that for you )
semi-automatic crossbow
presurrised needle gun (poison damage, if poison isnt already in egoboo then just make it a weaker crossbow with slightly faster shots)
If smart guy in the slightly later than middle ages
semi-automatic gonne
If you want anything original
a gun that shoots exploding disks
a robotic bear mount that can be dropped
tazer crossbow
the first ones i tried to make it so you could easily edit the script to make (except shotgun) the last ones i just got lazy with _________________ soon to come! |

The first three are already made (but the last you describe is the equivalent to a Poisoned Hand Crossbow), the fourth is TOO powerful, and the last 3 look like really good ideas!
The story of the Inventor:
But my Inventor is really a smart guy of today who is checking out the G'nomish Capitol ruins (G'nomes are betrayed by humans around 10 years after King Bishop disappears, because they have much to gain from the collapse of human civilization), as one of his ancestors is G'nomish, and he finds a strange device and uses it...Then, he gets transported back to the time of Egoboo, and ends up in the same place, but he ends up a few feet away from the machine, behind the G'nome who is working on it. You, as the Inventor, talk to the G'nome, who realizes that the machine worked, and says that you must save the King to save the G'nomish race! He finishes the machine, and tells you it's a Time Teleporter that lets you go back in time, because going forwards in time won't work because the future has not been decided yet. So, you decide to help save the King and the G'nome race! But you need something that differentiates you from the G'nomes...so you start inventing. And you make sure that all of your inventions may be recharged with a Hand-Crank Recharger while in battle or have unlimited ammo. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/maxaxle88/

nice story, sorry im not up to date with egoboo, i can only play version 2.4.4 (i think) and i dont really feel like playing the older one dont know why.
I think the last 3 are kind of rediculous, but if you feel they are ok then I think the bear would be easiest to make, it would just require the coding to be picked up as any other object, i cant work on anything starting tommorrow and leading onto 9 days from now because of the trip, so I probably won't have anything to offer for a while. _________________ soon to come! |

I'm sure someone did, check the birthday thread.

Egoboo uses it's own scripting language, I think it's based off something but I'm not sure what it is.
It's fairly easy to learn, take a couple of hours to study some existing scripts from the game and the "Egoscript functions" thread in the Help forum and you should be able to do most basic things. _________________ "To err is human, to really mess up requires a computer."

What egoboo always needs (did I miss something?):
Bug testers! Egoboo has X number of bugs, most of them not discovered. Each new version needs play testing and reports on stuff not working, incorrect, inbalanced what was fun and what was boring. (Helps further development a lot!).
Egoboo's AI and every object behavior is done through Script functions (See Chainsaw's post).
Map makers. Using EgoMap and a little knowledge with scripting can result in fun new modules!
Egoboo source code is written in C. Newest code is accessed through the repository.
New modellers and skinners are always nice.
New sound and music artists. _________________ http://egoboo.sourceforge.net

I could do maps if Egomap cooperates.
And a few items, but not modeling. (I can't make 3d well)
No bug testing, I either get slow or invisible characters on new versions.
I am actually or already made items and maps.
And a bit of skinning. _________________ Penguinflyer2222: Made in U.S.A.

I can script some simple things and make skins. But I suck at modelling. _________________

I find scripting and skins the easiest thing to learn. Use the AiDocs and scripting should be quite easy. And if there are any questions, just ask them.
Modelling takes some time to get attuned to. But it is also something you have to learn only once (there are a lot of tutorials and editing existing models is a nice way to learn stuff). _________________ http://egoboo.sourceforge.net

Editing models is easy, but adding on to them or making a new one is hard, because I find it hard to make it 3-d.
And scripting and skinning isn't that hard, when you learn how.
So I agree.
